Grace in Small Things – 291

  • The fact that this subject can be discussed in a calm, intellectual manner without anyone getting hot under the collar.
  • That–in spite of the prior shift not starting anything–I managed to whip up a delicious supper for the one hospice resident who was in the mood to eat.
  • Fresh, clean laundry.
  • That my brother–who has been unemployed for a while and whose physical and developmental disabilities make it hard for him to find and keep employment–has been accepted in a nice subsidized apartment complex. This truly feels like Grace. I am so grateful and relieved to know he is in a safe place with free lunch.
  • Wee tiny valentine cupcakes a hospice visitor made for the staff and volunteers.

Sylvain and I were remarking the other day how true the saying is that you learn something new every day. We’ve decided to keep track of this by noting the one new thing we learned that day. I’ll be adding it as a footnote under my regular posts.

Today I learned how to make “Simple Orange Chicken” using a can of mandarin oranges with juice, brown sugar and corn starch. Oh, and chicken breasts, of course.

If I am ever stuck trying to think of what I learned new that day, I can check out one of these sites!

  1. reading Kelly’s blog first in the morning surely is a grace…

always learning something new from you…
    :)

what a pity the first link is filtered from here… and the address is telling me it’s about Iran…
    :(
    much love

    • Human Being, So good to hear from you, my friend. I’ve been thinking of you and my Iranian friends in the days leading up to 22 Bahman and after. The website is Iranian dot com, to which I am a subscriber. It is like an online newspaper and the contributors are mostly members of the Iranian diaspora and people living in Iran. Every day I get opinion pieces, photos and stories from inside Iran, poems, …you name it. This particular article was written by a Jewish Zionist and the discussion was about Iran’s nuclear capabilities as seen by Israel. The author pointed out that you can disagree with a country’s foreign policy and still befriend the people of that country. I was impressed that many people commented on the article with opinions agreeing and disagreeing politely and calmly without it getting ugly. Big hug to you! xoxo Kelly

  3. Great stuff Kelly. I am dying to know what your view is on the subject.

You have been a source of inspiration, that’s how I learn something new: by looking at the things that attract me to a certain type of people.

  4. So happy for your brother, Miss Kelly. The chicken and cupcakes sound yummy. Have a beautiful day.

  5. I read the article and of course it frightens me.
I am ashamed at how little I know of different countries, people, who are antisemtic. I KNOW they are out there, and I know about the denial of Ha Shoah (the holocaust), but did not know about the threat of nucular arms in Iran. thanks for waking me up to these facts. Good article.

On a lighter side, so glad for your brother’s apt. find; and for cupcakes to honor the work that you do.

Good luck with the job hunt.

  6. Making a note of a new thing you learn every day…I really like that.

Yesterday I learned how to make tortilla soup.

As for today…it’s getting late, so I need to get my ass in gear and learn something…

    Lovely, lovely blog, btw.

  7. Thanks for the link to my blog at LSNED.com. Always appreciated!

Speaking of cupcakes… FACT: In England cupcakes are called fairy cakes. :o)
