After my first month in my new digs, I crunched the numbers and decided the pros of having internet in my home outweigh the cons. Hopefully I can be judicious and not use it in an addictive way to numb out. Rather I hope to use it for the tool it is and also rejoin my beloved cyber community of kindred spirits. Even though I also need face-to-face community in my life, I cannot deny that this community feeds me. And I hope I feed it!
I have been using Centrepoint Research Institute’s Holosync audio technology CDs daily for a couple of months now. The two hemispheres of my brain are starting to communicate with one another better and unresolved unconscious stuff is coming to the surface. Oh, boy. It’s a lot like Jungian work all over again, only without the therapist sitting across from me. It is a bit scary stirring things up, but the rewards of meditating with Holosync more than compensate for the occasional discomfort of having stuff come to the surface.
A few of the benefits I feel so far are:
- finding it much easier to settle quietly and meditate longer, less restlessness
- easier to be in the Now most of the time
- easier to let things go, let formerly irritating things not bother me
- easier to flow with what is
- pleasant brain chemicals being released
One thing I really like about this work is that it’s not much work. I just have to train myself day in and day out to be “the Witness.” Whatever arises, I let it be okay. I watch everything with curiosity. The rest takes care of itself. Puzzle pieces fall into place on their own. Dysfunctional behaviours and beliefs start to dissipate by themselves.
The only criticism I have of the company and its products so far is the unrelenting marketing materials masquerading as and embedded in the “support” literature. In just two months I must have received several trees’ worth of paper in my mailbox just from this company. At first I read every word, diligent student that I am. But even I have my ENOUGH point. I especially do not appreciate gimmicky attempts to manipulate me. You know, order by midnight tonight and we’ll throw in this and the other. SIGH. I tried emailing their customer support about it, but got no response. Maybe if I BLOG about it, I’ll get their attention. Heh heh.

kelly, I am glad you decided to have the internet at home. I enjoy reading your adventures so much. This way you can blog in your jammies with your hair uncombed as opposed to going out to a public internet site where I suppose jammies would cause some comments. Interesting about the holosync tapes. Both the effects you are wonderfully enjoying and the hype that comes to you as purchaser of their product. Take care and enjoy that new apartment.

glad to see you back. I have been trying to balance the whole real life/cyber life thing too. I tried the Holosync a while back and found it a good way to quiet my mind at night. I still get to sleep better as a result. I agree about the marketing, and had to work to get over the “self promotion” thing, because I know it is a problem I have.

My only problem with the internet in the home is playing a little too much on-line Scrabble. Otherwise, I have to have it to check accounts, send emails and track my favorite pro sports team. None of this makes me numb.

I’m glad you’re going to keep blogging too Kelly :) We bloggers do feed each other things that you don’t necessarily get in the everyday world.
And fantastic to hear about your success with meditation. I always look forward to time on my meditation cushion.

Glad you found something to help you meditate and feel good. I’m having wondrous results with yoga and meditation. I even did a 6 hour meditation last weekend! OMGosh!!! I did not think I would make it that long, but I did. It was very cleansing for me. I highly recommend it.

Kelly, I tried the Holosync system, but I have to confess I was so put off by the constant barrage of promotional material and out-and-out, tried-and-true consumer manipulation that I gave up on them.
You are smart to take the good you find in their system and consider their less-than-enlightened marketing as a separate issue.

I was cleaning my desk area yesterday and once again came across some post cards you had sent Fred…I will never toss these, as they and YOU are the reason I am in blogland. And it has only enriched my life! I owe it all to YOU Kelly, as I never even heard the word Blog before we got that postcard. And of course I am glad you will be posting more too. I wish your system had the “followers” thing that gives me a heads up when you post. It’s great for staying on top of things. But I don’t mind peeking in to see, and will more now that I know you are BACK!
Meditation sounds great, maybe just don’t bother to open the junk mail. ??? A choice.
